NW UPDATE, 2012
Well, it has been 2 years since I last updated the blog for "Night Walker" and I apologise for my lack of communication, but many things have happened in my life since the last update. I'll will briefly bring you up to speed on that for interest's sake, and then move on with the current state of "Night Walker" the movie, as we see it now.
After my last post (June 2010), we did indeed finish the full version of the film and this was sent out to all cast & crew for feedback purposes, short after. We were pleased to get so many of the feedback forms returned with useful feedback and an average high rating of 2.7 out of 3 stars! We then took that feedback back into the editing room, and what follows is a brief timeline (summary) of events since:
"Night Walker" Post Production Timeline (summary):
July 2010 - Back into editing room to make changes (feedback) and start on final cut of short version for festivals.
Sept 2010 - One very cold autumn day. Computer (iMac 2006) crashes and won't turn on (no power) - frustration sets in and panic ensues!
October 2010 - Decision made to try and repair computer (resuscitate) instead of purchasing new editing suite, and run the risk of losing 5 years of final cut pro files and painstaking work!
November 2010 - With a few weeks research and a shit load of determination, we begin ripping apart the iMac and locating the power supply which we deem (with our newfound knowledge) to be the culprit. K and I, Rip out and replace power supply, put iMac back together again... wait... turn on... and hold breath!
December 2010 - Surgery was a SUCCESS and we are back in business! Now time for Xmas and a well earned winter vacation!!!
January 2011 - Back to editing the short version for film festivals after the holiday break! Organised lead actor (John Lipartito) to re-do voiceovers in a professional sound studio.
February 2011 - Record voiceovers at Kawaguchi Media 7 editing studio.
February 2011 - Record voiceovers at Kawaguchi Media 7 editing studio.
March 11, 2011 - BANG! Our lives turn upside down! The Great East Japan Earthquake happens on 3/11 which literally shook up our world and abruptly separated our small family into two units. Due to this shocking natural disaster and the man made one that was to follow (Fukushima nuclear accident) our family had to make a very tough decision... to stay in Japan or leave. Unfortunately, we had no other option but to remove our 5 year old son from the situation and move him to Australia to live with his Grandmother for some time. After 8 months or so, I was to follow and leave Japan (sad time) and relocate back to my mother land to be with my son. Wife, mother and "Night Walker" producer to follow suit after VISA approval (takes up to 1 year)...
Needless, to say, not a lot of editing or post production was even attempted during this year, as I relocated my life, rebuilt my existing business (now Stage 3 Enterprises), and settled in to Aussie life again with all it's reverse culture shock charm! Night Walker then took a back seat for an extended period of time, as I got on with rebuilding my life and business, not to mention all the little administration details of moving to another country again... I had to begin my driver's license from scratch! I can not begin to explain the enjoyment of driving with your mother at age 40, with L plates beaming from your windows... lol!
May, 2012 - Back to "Night Walker" post production. Started work on final short version for film festivals again.
June, 2012 - Started website planning. Completed short version (final) of "Night Walker" the movie. Running Time (RT) is now: 29.57sec just shorter than the short film cut off limit of 30 mins for most film festivals.
July, 2012 - Prepared press kit for "Night Walker" complete with still photography and poster for promotion. Also, created film festival pack for festival submission. Festival submissions start.
August, 2012 - The "Night Walker" website goes live. Facebook promotion begins.
September, 2012 - A big month for us as we finally release our humble little film to the world (after 7 life affirming years), and as one wise man once said, "show our dirty laundry" to you. We will be showing a 'Special Screening for Fans, Cast and Crew' (limited time only) firstly at a special discounted price (free for cast and crew of course).
November, 2012 - Plan to release "Night Walker" to the whole world (public screening) with our first ONLINE PREMIERE of the film later this month.
Ok, that is all for now readers.
More updates to come soon... if I survive, that is.
PS. Thanks for reading this rather long catch up post full of fickle filmmaking excuses... now go and watch the trailer again: Watch Trailer. Sign up for the 'Special Screening' here: Watch Movie and even download the press kit, poster or trailer here: Download.
